Local Grandparent James Oldman has begun telling his sport loving granddaughter about the time long ago when sport was something everyone could watch for free.

“When I was young when we said Australia was a sporting nation we actually meant it,” said James, “you see when there was sport on you could just turn on the tele and watch it for free.”

“Back in my day you didn’t need to pay for 10 different streaming services just to watch games, all you needed was a tv.”

“And since it didn’t rely on the NBN to broadcast it, there wasn’t any buffering or website crashes.”

“On Saturdays you could watch the footy for free and have it take up a day or two of workplace smalltalk during the week, but now chances are either you or your coworker just end up going ‘nah didn’t see the game, can’t afford it’. Those were the good old days.”
