Australian media outlets have sent a request to dictionary companies demanding they update the definition of ‘crossfire’ to include when a cop points a gun directly at you and shoots you.

This comes after Australian journalist Lauren Tomasi was shot by police with a rubber bullet while covering the protests in LA.

The incident which was caught on camera and shows the officer look at the reporter, then pointing a gun directly at her before shooting her, has been described by outlets including her employer Channel 9 as being caught in the ‘crossfire’.

“People need to understand that if we like the people with the guns, it is always counted as getting caught in crossfire,” explained media executives, “it’s a shame when accidents like this happen.”

“We understand this outrageous act would have traumatic and we hope the poor riot police officer can recover from this journalist’s decision to not dodge the projectile that chose to go towards her.”

Channel 9 has put out a statement commending the journalist for her bravery and wishing her a full recovery, while also calling on officials to investigate how the rubber bullet ‘magically managed to hit her’.
